So, I often come across handfuls of rocks that I have no idea their origin or composition. This one must have tagged along in one of those handfuls. It's a striking stone, and it tumbled well with known hard rocks, so I assumed it to be some kind of jasper... which apparently it is. My rock identification app insists, repeatedly, that it's called Vabanite. Funny thing is, I can find very little about "vabanite" on the googles...
Mindat.org, pretty much the authority on rocks, gems and minerals, has a vague listing for Vabanite as "a synonym for jasper" and "A jasper from California, USA". Google search led me to that mindat page, and also asks if I meant "vaginite"... which I certainly do not.
Googling "what is Vabanite?" leads me to another source at rosen-co.com and a jewelry glossary. Its entry reads as such: Vabanite - A type of jasper, appearing as a yellow-flecked, brown gem." This sort of describes this particular stone, I suppose...but I'm not sold.

If anyone has a better understanding of what Vabanite is, please let me know. Anyway, it's a gorgeous stone, and it would look great hanging from someone's neck.
